Halloween Make-Up Tips...

Do you want a hot look for Halloween but you're not sure how to make it happen? Read on for some simple make-up tips for the spooky holiday.

Turn Beauty Make-up Staples into Horror Effects:

  • Navy, purple and brown eye shadows are perfect for blending into eye sockets and is effective if matte rather than shimmer colors are used. Bruising, tiredness and an undead look are all easy to achieve with this technique and can look scarily realistic if done with a light touch. Contouring eye sockets, cheek bones and bony skulls is also simple as most beauty eye colors are made to be blended easily and look fabulous on camera.
  • Too-pale foundation gives the skin a deathly pallor and if blended well can also provide a more realistic and less fancy dress look than grease paint or face paint. Try teaming this with either no blusher or a very bright, clean blush to bring out the paleness of the skin. Take a little foundation over the lips to look deathly pale.
  • For chic, Halloween party make-up that is sexy rather than monstrous, use the above beauty products to create a ghoulish pale skinned and smoky eye look. This is perfect to team with this season's staples such as red lips or jeweled party lashes.
  • For realism don't forget to blend pale foundation into neck, hands or anything on display and do not just stop at the chin.
  • Concealer pencils are useful for lining eyes to make them look extra pale, especially if lashes are left without mascara. This is the opposite to a vampy smoky eye but looks equally good with red lips and washed out skin.
  • Lip gloss is especially good for creating an oozy sheen if special effects make-up cannot be found.
  • Black, matte lipstick is also a fantastic look for a glamorous Halloween make-up if done with polished make-up, 1920s style. Using a black kohl pencil to line lips around a deep wine colored lipstick also looks fabulous with pale skin and opulent lashes. Blot cream color with powder to make it seriously matte.

Sexy & Short...Is It Right For You?

Super short hairstyles are walking the runways and red carpet this fall with the likes of Carrie Mulligan (pictured on the left), Halle Berry, and Katie Holmes sporting fashionably fabulous short dues. But is it right for you?

The answer is yes and no. Some face shapes are great for super short looks, others for chin length bobs. Just make sure that whatever style you choose you take into consideration a few things before you chop off your locks!

First, consider the rest of your look by asking yourself a few questions. What kind of makeup do you wear, your style, your clothes, are you more edgy or chic? What about your work environment? Make sure your hair will work for the day and transform into the night. If you're a flip-flop casual kind of girl then you might want a look that is low maintanance.

Second, make sure your cut has style and is something that you can do once you leave the salon. Working with a good stylist can be key to getting the right look that fits your needs. A good stylist will always recommend products and ideas on how you can maintain your new look when you are home.

Third, do you have curly or textured hair? Keep that in mind when you get your hair cut the texture of your hair will make a huge difference as to how it looks. An a-symmetrical bob might be hard to maintain if you have naturally curly hair, unless you are willing to flat-iron or straighten your hair everyday. If you love the bob and are sure it is the best style for you, then consider a Brazilian Blowout to lessen the frizz and add more smoothness. Short hair with added texture can also give you an edge. If you have super straight hair and want more of a flowing look with your short hair, try using a curling iron.

Finally, pay attention to your natural features. Short hair draws attention to your face so make sure the cut is angled to enhance your features. Adding layers or angled bangs can accentuate cheekbones or draw attention away from your nose. Ask your hair stylist to help you achieve the most gorgeous feminine short haircut that compliments your face and style.

Girls Donate Hair to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths!

Most school aged kids spend their afternoons playing video games and hanging out at the play ground, but for sisters Carney and Isabel, they spent an afternoon giving back. Both girls decided to get haircuts and donate their hair to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths.

Obsessions Salon was so excited and honored that the girls decided to come to them with such an important task. Stylists Joy and Sue were happy to help the girls giving them beautiful haircuts and styles, while preserving their left over hair for
donation.

Check out these adorable pictures and thank you to Carney and Isabel for such a kind gesture. What an example they are setting and we are proud to have them as clients of Obsessions!

Pantene's Beautiful Lengths is committed to helping all women feel their best, which inspired us to draw people together and make a difference for women facing cancer. The program encourages women and men to grow, cut, and donate their hair to make real hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments.

Obsessions is located at 1345 Linda Mar Shopping Center, in Pacifica. To get more info on the salon check out our Website at www.obsessionssalon.com

Check Out What People are Saying About Obsessions Salon

"Yes, I still love my hair. I love my long, silky, jet black hair even more now after having had the Brazilian Blowout treatment! I had the treatment done 5 months ago and with all the rain that has been going on - not one frizzy strand! My hair laughs at the rain and stays silky shiny, and healthy without frizz, I just love it! It lays on my skin and softly brushes me when I walk ::sigh:: love my hair! I used to spend a good 2 hours blow drying and flat ironing my hair that I would call it "going into battle" because it was so so time consuming and my arms got tired. Joy is my hairdresser at Obsessions. She just did my second Brazilian Blowout FIVE MONTHS AFTER MY FIRST! I heart Joy because she keeps me looking fabulous! I see her once a week for a wash, blowout, and flat iron for a mere $30! The BB was supposed to last a couple of months but mine lasted super long. I think it has a lot to do with using the BB products and faithfully doing the masque overnight once a week. Thank you Obsessions for having such a great space that I feel happy to visit so often - and my heartfelt thanks to Joy who week in and week out works so hard to maintain my luscious locks so that I can keep loving my hair! I love my hair - worth every penny I spend on it. *smile* (yes I am fondling my hair right now ::laughing::) If you are considering the Brazilian Blowout - the trip to Obsessions Pacifica will save you $100 right off the bat (I was quoted $350 from several salons in the city for the same exact treatment, products, etc). Give a small town mom and pop a try - visit Obsessions! SPOILER ON BOARD: A friend of mine told me that another beauty salon in Pacifica charges for the Brazilian Blowout based on THE LENGTH OF YOUR HAIR. HUH?! At Obsessions the price is what it is and you get the shampoo free if you buy the set of home products. At another salon in the city where another one of my friends went, she paid more than I did but it is a flat rate there as well. Strange practice, very strange indeed.Joy and Obsessions are a part of my beauty squad that boasts other people and places around the Bay Area. I am so lucky to be surrounded by talented people who work very hard to help me physically project the way I feel inside! Life is too short to be average - be spectacular!"
